Self Development: The foundation of Ekusa community

October 31, 2021

The hunger for the development of Ekusa Town had been an age-long one, first manifested in the founding fathers of the town after the relocation of the community from Igbo Egburu (Egburu Forest) to its present day  location.        The people were quick to embrace western education introduced by the Europeans and promoted by the building of the Anglican Primary School, a community-based elementary school – in the year 1930. The introduction of Free Primary Education in the year 1955 by the administration of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Premier of Western Region of Nigeria, promoted the enlargement of the primary school as all children, male and female of both the poor and the rich, of normal age and overage were enrolled at the school to commence western education.

Most of the infrasructure in the town were initiated by the community long before some of them were handed over to the government. The four cross roads linking the four neighbouring towns from the center of the town were the brain child of the people of the town. ……….

Ekusa Development Association (EDA) was established in 1995 to provide a more coordinated approach to the formulation and implementation of development ideas and policies in Ekusa.  Under the aegis of Ekusa Development Association, the first Ekusa Day Celebrations was organized in 1995 with invitations to non-indigenes of the town from far and near to solicit for donation of funds to be utilized in executing development projects. In the three consecutive years that followed the above, Ekusa Day Celebrations were organized on 13th April 1996, 29th November, 1997 and 19th December, 1998.
